404 Error Page/Message
Almost all websites have what is called a 404 Error Page (or simply 404 Page) built into their framework. The 404 Page presents a message to users who have a bad or broken link.
For instance, if a visitor manually typed a webpage URL into their browser and entered a typo, they would be taken to the website's 404 Error Page alerting them that the link they are trying to access is not a working link on the website.
The 404 Page should not be edited or deleted.
In GW Drupal, 404 Error Pages are handled in one of two ways:
- As a System Page that only Site Administrators can access
- Websites launched from 2012 - mid-2018 typically use this format
- As a Webform page
- Websites launched in late 2018 to the present typically use this format
- When completed, the webform is configured to notify the applicable site owner of the broken link
