Rotating Sidebar

Available in both themes of GW Drupal, the Rotating Sidebar content set subtype allows you to group together Pages and Promotions into a single rotating element. With this feature, you can optionally display the items' title, Main Image, and a text summary.

Create a Rotating Sidebar

As with all Content Sets, the items within the set must be created first before they can be added to the set.

  1. Hover over My Workbench > Create Content
  2. Click on Content Set

A blank content entry page will load.

  1. Select All Purpose Sidebar - Rotating from the required Subtype dropdown options
  2. Under Onsite Content, type in the name of the pre-existing content item you'd like to feature
    • Drupal will display a list of matching items
  3. Select the appropriate item
    • You must select from the list. Do not simply type in the item's name.
  4. Click the Add Another Item button to add additional slides
  5. Repeat steps 4 and 5
  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page
  7. Click on the Publishing Options panel
  8. Set the Moderation State to Published
  9. Click the Save button

Add a Rotating Sidebar to a Page

Note: this will only work on pages with sidebars. Pages that do not have sidebars are not optimized for displaying the Rotating Sidebar content set. A workaround to this is to add your List to a Mini Panel.

  1. On the desired page, click the New Draft tab
  2. Scroll down to the Right Sidebar Content and/or Left Sidebar Content fields
  3. Type in the name of your Rotating Sidebar content set you just created
    • Drupal will display a list of matching content items
  4. Select the appropriate item
    • You must select from the list. Do not simply type its name into the field
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page
  6. Click on the Publishing Options panel
  7. Set the Moderation State to Published
  8. Click the Save button

On the Homepage

By default, the homepage of the GW Drupal Classic theme website has a content pane on standby for displaying the Rotating Sidebar. To allow your Rotating Sidebar to display there, you simply need to give it a Site Placement value of "Home" before it is published.

If the Rotating Sidebar does not display, that likely means that its content pane has been deleted. A Site Administrator will need to restore the GW Content Set - Rotating Sidebar Home Page content pane back to the homepage via the Customize this Page button in order for the feature to work as expected.

On a Subpage

  1. On the desired page, click the New Draft tab
  2. Scroll down to the Right Sidebar Content and/or Left Sidebar Content fields
  3. Type in the name of your Rotating Sidebar content set
    • Drupal will display a list of matching content items
  4. Select the appropriate item
    • You must select from the list. Do not simply type its name into the field
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page
  6. Click on the Publishing Options panel
  7. Set the Moderation State to Published
  8. Click the Save button
