Rotating Hero

The Rotating Hero content set allows you to group multiple Hero banners into a rotator. In the Editorial theme, this can be placed on any page, while in the Classic theme it is only designed for the homepage.

As with all Content Sets, the Hero banners that will be featured in the content set must be created first.

Create a Rotating Hero

  1. Hover over My Workbench > Create Content
  2. Click on Content Set
    • A blank content entry page will load.
  3. Under the required Subtype dropdown select:
    • Hero - Fixed Width for Hero banners whose dimensions should not exceed the width of the content area
    • Hero - Full Bleed for Hero banners whose dimensions should expand across the entire width of the device's screen
  4. Under Onsite Content, type in the name of the pre-existing Hero banner you'd like to feature
    • Drupal will display a list of matching Heroes
  5. Select the appropriate Hero
    • You must select from the list. Do not simply type in the item's name.
  6. Click the Add Another Item button to add additional Heroes to the slider
  7. Repeat steps 4 and 5
  8. Scroll down to the bottom of the page
  9. Click on the Publishing Options panel
  10. Set the Moderation State to Published
  11. Click the Save button

  4. Filter the list of views by typing "Hero" into the filter field
  5. Select the appropriate view based on the Subtype/size:
    • Hero - Fixed Width Rotating - User Select
    • Hero - Full Bleed Rotating - User Select
  6. Type in the title of your Rotating Hero content set
    • Drupal will display a list of matching content sets
    • You must select from the list. Do not simply type in the item's name.

  8. Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen

You should now see your Rotating Hero banner on the page. You may need to refresh the page to see the adjusted layout.

Add the Rotating Hero to the Homepage

By default, the homepage of the GW Drupal Classic theme website has a content pane on standby for displaying the Rotating Hero. To allow yours to display there, you simply need to give your Rotating Hero content set a Site Placement value of "Home" before it is published.

If the Rotating Hero does not display, it is possible that one of two things has happened:

  1. The homepage has been configured for a static Hero banner instead.
  2. The Rotating Hero content pane is configured for the wrong size.

On a Subpage

Subpages are not designed to display rotating Hero banners.

Remove a Hero banner from the Rotation

  1. Go to My Workbench > All Recent Content
  2. Find the Rotating Hero content set
  3. Use the Title search box or the Type dropdown to filter for "content sets"
  4. Edit the appropriate Content Set
  5. Delete the title of the Hero banner under Onsite Content
  6. Scroll down to the Publishing Options panel
  7. Change the Moderation State to Published
  8. Click the Save button
