Node ID

All GW Drupal content is assigned a unique numerical identifier known as a Node ID. The Node ID is assigned automatically and will remain constant throughout the life of your content.

In most cases, you don't need to know or care about the Node ID of your content. However, there are a few instances where knowing the Node ID is helpful or is required to complete a specific task.

When knowing the Node ID is helpful:

  • When linking to other pages on your site via the WYSIWYG, the Node ID can be used to distinguish between content with similar or duplicate names.
  • When linking to other pages on your site from a Promotion where you have to manually enter the URL. Rather than pasting in the full page URL, you can link to "node/node_id" and the link will always work, even if the URL of the target page changes.
  • When troubleshooting an issue.

When knowing the Node ID is required to complete a specific task:

  • When sharing content between two GW Drupal sites.
